Siemens’ Insight: Recognizing the SME Opportunity

Siemens has a deep understanding of this.  From hardware to software, Siemens has a wide range of mature digital solutions that stretch as far as the eye can see.  However, such a huge system is undoubtedly prepared for large enterprises.  Nearly 50,000 large enterprise customers worldwide form a solid business fortress for Siemens.

These products, which often cost millions or even tens of millions of yuan, are hard to be targeted at small and medium-sized enterprises.  This is not merely about how much the budget is.  Those business processes set for large clients seem overly complicated for small and medium-sized enterprises.

However, the large number of small and medium-sized enterprises is remarkable.  In China, there are over 50 million small, medium and micro enterprises in all walks of life, and over 6 million manufacturing enterprises.  Among them, the revenue for many years did not exceed 100 million yuan.  Such enterprises also have the need for digital transformation, but their budgets are only a few hundred thousand or even tens of thousands of yuan.

If there are flexible enough digital solutions for small and medium-sized enterprises, the revenue will also be magnified by a hundredfold.  Siemens has decided to open up such a second digital battlefield, providing a powerful platform support for the digital transformation of small and medium-sized enterprises.  And it also needs to dynamically design a refreshing business model within the existing operating product system and service system.

Introducing Siemens Xcelerator: A Platform for SMEs

In June 2022, Siemens launched the Siemens Xcelerator business platform for the digital transformation of small and medium-sized enterprises.  This digital surprise force was soon introduced to China and became the main battlefield here.

As a business platform, it naturally needs to meet the requirements of transaction matching.  Here, a wide variety of digital technology solution product shelves are provided for users.  The most prominent feature of these "shelf solutions" is their simplicity and practicality.  Even small and medium-sized enterprises with only one IT staff member can download and use it immediately.  This way of aggregating such minimalist and usable digital technology solutions has never occurred before.

Siemens Xcelerator will become a key platform for Siemens to achieve digital "technology equalization".  Although large enterprise solutions cannot be directly replicated to small and medium-sized enterprises, the experience that has been moderately refined and the methodology that has been tailored remain reliable.  The Siemens Xcelerator platform aims to become a large-scale knowledge distillation vessel, enabling the reuse of knowledge streams and the overflow of methodologies, thus allowing small and medium-sized enterprises to truly benefit from it.

The “Gongyi Magic Cube”: Low-Threshold IT-OT Integration

The "Gongyi Magic Cube" on the Siemens Xcelerator platform is a low-threshold graphical tool for integrating IT and OT.  It was originally designed to enable various robots to be programmed under a single interface, and later expanded to be oriented towards various production line equipment.  Siemens' extensive equipment knowledge and various IT systems have eventually led to the formation of such a lightweight and easy-to-use tool.  It enables engineers on the workshop site to deeply participate in the construction of digitalization.
