Siemens recently announced that it plans to integrate its industrial-grade intelligent assistant Operations Copilot into automatic transportation systems and mobile robots. As mobile transport robots gradually evolve into artificial intelligence (AI) -driven autonomous physical agents, Siemens Operations Copilot will serve as the user interface for human-machine interaction, assisting users in configuring autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) and automated guided vehicles (AGVs), and assigning tasks to them.
Launch an AI agent dedicated to AMR/AGV to further enhance Operations Copilot
Next, Siemens plans to further expand the functionality of Operations Copilot by introducing AI agents specifically developed for AMRs and AGVs. These agents will support the debugging and operation management from individual devices to the entire fleet. Debugging in the traditional way is very complex and time-consuming: AGVs need to be integrated into the factory's existing IT/OT converged infrastructure and parameter configuration should be completed based on specific working conditions such as route planning and transfer stations. To simplify this process, engineers can rely on Operations Copilot: invoking AGV sensor and camera data to gain a detailed understanding of the surrounding environment; At the same time, all relevant technical documents of the device components can be accessed, and real-time operation data of the system can be obtained through its agent interface. Thanks to this, debugging engineers and operators can enhance work efficiency, solve problems more efficiently, and achieve rapid deployment.
Rainer Brehm, CEO of Siemens Factory Automation, said: By integrating virtual and real AI agents into Operations Copilot, we are opening up new dimensions of interaction among humans, robots and AI, empowering customers to deploy autonomous transportation systems more quickly, achieve efficient operation and enhance safety - taking a step closer to the vision of building autonomous factories.
Siemens has launched the brand-new Safe Velocity software to enhance workshop safety
Agvs are equipped with navigation and sensor technologies, enabling them to move safely and reliably in production and in-plant logistics environments without human intervention. When people or objects are detected in the path, the AGV will automatically perform obstacle avoidance actions such as deceleration, braking or detouring. Siemens' newly launched Safe Velocity software solution conducts fault-safety monitoring of vehicle speed and dynamically adjusts the protected area of the safety laser scanner in real time. This TUV-certified software is compatible with the software and hardware systems of multiple AGV manufacturers and can enhance the existing safety system to meet the strict industrial safety standards. Safe Velocity reduces the demand for additional safety hardware. Without affecting functional safety, it simplifies the system architecture, saves on-board space, reduces engineering complexity, and significantly reduces wiring requirements.
In the future, Operations Copilot will interact with AI agents such as Safe Velocity for data, parse the target data of the Safe laser scanner and monitor the operating speed of AGVs. The virtual Safe Velocity agent not only undertakes the operation supervision task of industrial autonomous vehicles, but also collaborates with other agents developed specifically for AGV/AMR application scenarios. In this way, Siemens is building a multi-agent system, with Operations Copilot uniformly scheduling virtual and real AI agents to achieve seamless interaction and deep integration between real industrial scenarios and digital Spaces.
